Slow ... No! Boring ... No! Fast-Paced and Intriguing ... Yes!

The Magician, Book Two in the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott, was a great, fast-paced book.

Nicholas, Scatty, and the twins, Josh and Sophie, have just arrived in Paris, France. But this is no vacation. Two days prior they were normal fifteen-year-old teenagers whose biggest problem was getting a job. But now Sophie has Awakened and become even a bigger target to the Elders. While the twins are being chased around the city, Josh's strong doubts about Flamel's trustworthiness grow greater. His decision-making starts to cloud when a new feeling of loneliness fill him. Not only is he being chased my powerful, magical people, he feels a wall grow in between him and Sophie. As motives are uncovered and more secrets gathered, the twins start to doubt and lose faith in the few protectors they have.

The Magician was a riveting read. The chapters, though going back and forth between different side stories and the main plot, ran smoothly. It was easy to stay interested and glued to the book. For any other book, five hundred pages would feel like forever, but for this book it went quickly. Its fast-paced storyline and each perfectly ended chapter made you take deep breath and didn't force you but drew you into the next chapter.

Michael Scott wove a creative and intriguing world in The Magician that you couldn't help but be pulled into. 5 out of 5 stars
