Review of Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side
Jessica Packwood is a normal teenager beginning her senior year of high school, when the mysterious “exchange student” Lucius Vladescu shows up and changes her life forever by telling her that she is really a princess. And a vampire. And that they are engaged to be married. If they don’t marry, Lucius warns, a war between their two vampire families could erupt in their homeland of Romania. So Jessica, or “Antanasia Dragomir,” must choose between the normal life of an American teenager or the dangerous but intriguing life of a vampire princess.
I enjoyed this book. The characters are likable, and if the secondary characters are a bit two-dimensional it only helps to emphasize how unusual Lucius is and how much Jessica is changing to accept her new role. Jessica’s refusal to believe in vampires, however, does get a bit tiresome by the middle of the book, particularly after her adoptive parents have confirmed Lucius’s story and he has proven that he’s a vampire. But her reactions are mostly believable, and she becomes the hero of the book in a fairly surprising ending. If you love the Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series then you will definitely want to read this book. It’s also a must-read for any romance or vampire fiction fans.
